Reporting an Absence

Please call the 24 hour attendance line 983-3709 on the first day of your child’s absence. After a 3 day absence, parents will be asked to provide a doctor’s excuse.

Medication Request

If you are unable to come to school to administer prescribed medication to your child, please have your doctor complete the Medication Permit Form and return it to the school office or have it faxed to (765) 983-3735.

Medical & Dental Appointments

Please make appointments before or after school hours. If this is not possible and your child must be released from school, please send a note to the teacher and come to the office to sign out your child. If your child arrives late to school because of a doctor’s appointment, please ask your doctor for a note and make sure to sign in your child at the school office.

General Health Information

The incidence and severity of illness is greatly reduced when we work together and follow a few guidelines.

  • Parents of a child showing signs of illness or infection will be contacted. Please keep your emergency cards up to date for this reason.
  • Students put on medication for an infection should not return to school for at least 24 hours.
  • Cough drops and acetaminophen cannot be administered at school unless the parent/guardian completes a permission medication form. Forms are available in the office.
  • Most medication can be timed so that the parent can give it at home. All medication must be kept in the office.
  • Students who are vomiting or running a temperature of more than 100 should be kept home.
  • Students with an unexplained rash should be kept home, and the doctor should be contacted.
  • The school should be notified of any communicable illness so that notes can be sent to classmates (strep throat, chicken pox).

F.O.C.U.S. Group – Families Organized Creating Unlimited Success

At KC STEMM Academy we believe that parental involvement is key to the success of students. Therefore we have created a Parent Resource Center located in our north facility. This center is a place where computers, office equipment, and material resources are readily available to all of our parents and families during the school day. The F.O.C.U.S group also meets in the parent resource center to organize events, initiatives, and volunteer opportunities for our students and families.
The KC STEMM Clothing Exchange Closet is one initiative of the FOCUS group. Families can donate or exchange used uniforms that their children have grown out of. If families have nothing to exchange they can purchase the donated uniform items at a discount. Call (765) 407-9752 for more information.
Another initiative is the Box Tops for Education program in which classrooms collect box tops for our school. The box tops can be found on the containers of many food and household items. Our school can redeem funds to pay for special activities and projects when we turn in the box tops. The classroom collecting the most box tops each semester wins an ice cream party.

Visitors and Volunteers

At KC STEMM we have an open door policy with parents and families. Feel free to visit and observe your student’s classroom anytime during the school day. We only ask that you do so without disrupting the learning environment. When visiting please sign in at the office and obtain a visitor’s badge. Contact your student’s teacher if you are interested in volunteering.
